Technological requirements
- All courses are provided through the Internet. No special software is required. All a learner needs is a basic Internet connection, a browser such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari or Firefox, and an email account. In some courses, we also use SMS technology to keep you current and to inform you of class developments. In these instances, a mobile phone is required. Skype and instant messaging are also tools we use.

Instruction - Most of our courses are instructor-led -- an instructor is available online for discussions, interaction and questions. Each class will also have an assigned learning support associate (LSA), who will ensure that students and instructors are communicating clearly and sufficiently. We’ve found this to be highly effective in helping you take charge of what, where, when, and how you learn.

Our classes - Classes are typically limited to 40 learners. They usually last from 2 - 3 weeks, during which period learners are expected to put in between 15-30 hours online. There are 3 levels of interaction that are emphasized in our e-Learning courses. At the first level, learners interact with the content. At the second level, learners interact with other learners through discussion and exchanges, and at the third level, learners interact with online instructors, who also provide substantive guidance.

Assistance around the clock - The GHG Management Institute e-Learning support team is ready to assist you 24/7 via email. For technical questions, or to embark on your e-learning adventure, send us an email at ghgsupport@ghginstitute.org.

Certificates of Participation and Proficiency – We offer three levels of learning. The first level is one of participation, where the student earns a certificate confirming participation in the course. The second level is one of proficiency. Participants of select courses under the program will have the option of receiving a certificate based on successful demonstration of proficiency through an exam. Future accreditation courses will provide yet a higher level of training, and may involve rigorous examination during an in-person training workshop, following the completion of the online portion of the course.

Packages will be offered for particular audiences, such as corporate environmental and sustainability managers, sector-specific environmental management consultants, and NGO program managers. Overview courses will also be offered, targeting managers who need to have a clear overall perspective of the emerging landscape for GHG management.

Welcome to the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute. It’s only been a couple of months since we launched our first course. Thank you so much for the tremendous support and interest, as well as patience in adapting to some birthing pains.

Due to overwhelming demand, we’re accelerating the development of new courses. In January, the Basic Course for Project-level GHG Accounting will be open for registration. In February, we’ll open two new courses - Setting Up a GHG Information System for Corporations and Organizations, and the Carbon Disclosure Project: How to respond to the questionnaire.

We’re very excited by the partnerships we’ve signed with the World Resources Institute and the Carbon Disclosure Project. We’re also very excited by the positive reception that our e-learning format has received from the climate change stakeholder community. E-learning is a highly-effective means of reaching out, educating, and bringing together people around the world, and it makes sense to use this format to accommodate not only the busy schedules of our learners but also the worldwide demand for our courses.

Several changes are on their way. First, we’re proud to have been able to provide financial assistance to many NGOs and developing country learners despite our limited scholarship funds. We’re appealing to governments and foundations to help us build up our scholarship fund to meet the high interest and demand from NGOs and developing country stakeholders to develop GHG management professionals around the world.

Second, we’re introducing a bundled pricing policy that will make it even more affordable for climate change stakeholders to avail of our world-class courses. We’re also announcing group discount pricing for organizations that wish to develop GHG management teams.

Finally, we’re very excited to start developing our professional programs. Our Director for Professional Programs, Tom Baumann, will be announcing this very soon.

So don’t get left behind in the fast growing carbon market. Join the growing ranks of companies, governments, NGOs, and individuals who’re using GHG management to take real and measurable action to combat climate change while staying competitive. Register your email to keep abreast with the latest cutting-edge courses on GHG management.

Yours truly,

Gao Pronove
